Thanksgiving week is here and do WE have a reason to be grateful! Actually, TWO reasons :) Chuck Loeb kicks off the show at one p.m. Eastern. You know about this brilliant New York-based producer/arranger/composer and gifted guitarist. But what you may not have heard yet is the new project from Fourplay, the supergroup that welcomed Chuck into its golden fold in 2010. "Esprit De Four" is one of those works of art that morphs music into instant memories. A threshold into the holiday season. Seriously. And Chucks three tracks on the album are staggeringly transformative. Youll hear all three during the course of the show, and hear about the joy of brotherhood with Bob James, Harvey Mason and Nathan East. An hour or so of music, then off and running with our second guest at three p.m. Odean Pope is a source of immense pride in Philadelphia, where the legendary saxophonist/composer/arranger/educator moved when he was 10. He had spent earlier years in South Carolina, and learned to hear music the way so many greats have: via the strong truth in the Southern Baptist Church. This legendary "tenor terror" (Jazz Times) has retained that truth over his 70 plus years. Close to John Coltrane, he was replaced in Jimmy Smiths group when Trane joined Miles Davis in New York City. Max Roach found Odean and they played together past two decades. Innovative and passionate for Jazz, my Hometown Hero has brought audiences to their feet and has given many children a future. He founded the Jazz Studies program at the Settlement Music School. Certainly, well discuss that and Odeans forthcoming CD! Let us give thanks for two artists that have given us so much joy through the years! The fun starts at one on November 20th, 2012 - two days before a special holiday. I cant imagine a better way to celebrate!
